Welcome to July’s seasonal scroll!

If you’re new here, every single month I round up the best articles, podcasts, recipes, seasonal recommendations and a few clothing/ interior bits for good measure!

Basically, a big ol’ post with how to embrace the month, and a selection of things aligned with it too.

Before we dive in, just a reminder that on Wednesday the 2nd of July our journaling club will be meeting at 7pm! This is an hour long, guided session for the Slower Space community starting with a meditation, followed by curated journal prompts, giving you the space to reflect and reset! The theme for the month is joy… Come and join us, we’d love to have you there.

A joyful July 🌞

My intention for July? To make it a gorgeous, joyful month. I turn 30 on the 15th and I’m 3 months postpartum so it feels like a good time to reconnect and hone in on all of the small and simple pleasures in life - which I’ll be honest, sleep deprivation has made it harder to do!

I’ll be sharing all of the little things I get up to in Instagram, but also connecting in the Substack chat if you fancy joining me for the ride!

After the heatwaves in June I’m ready for some relief from the extremes in July that are hopefully on the way. I can’t be the only one craving balmy 20 degree days, not the sticky 30 degrees we’ve been having?

Anyway, this month is all about starting a softer approach to summer.

With my birthday coming up I’ll be spending a good chunk of time at home (where I grew up, anyone else have 2 places they call home?) on the North Wales coast. I didn’t appreciate it anywhere near as much as I should have growing up there, but it’s now my favourite place and I couldn’t think of anywhere better to celebrate turning the big 30!

My focus in June was time in nature and outdoors as much as possible, and it’s the same for July. Time “wasted” outside. Watching the sunset, taking trips to the beach, hopefully having the first batch of my tomatoes that I’ve been growing.

A slow and simple summer.

No big plans, but capturing the joy of July in smaller, quieter moments. Celebrating my birthday with nothing big, but being around loved ones and tapping into the small joys.

Ways to embrace this month without the hurry…

  • Take a trip to the beach. Let me know in the comments where your closest beach is that you love? I live in Nottingham so don’t get to visit that often, but the North Wales Coast (a place called Conwy Morfa to be specific) is my favourite! I also love Cornwall, but that’s a little far for me.

  • Walk barefoot on the grass, so simple but so good for you

  • Create small, special moments like having your morning coffee outside

  • Eat all of the strawberries before we have to wait for them to be in season again next year - I’ve been loving them in salads with walnuts and balsamic vinegar.

  • Cook with tomatoes and find new recipes

  • Spend a lazy weekend afternoon pottering in your garden or a park

  • Create a dreamy summer playlist with your favourite feel good songs to listen to whilst cleaning and getting odd jobs done

  • Setting up a picnic blanket, lying back and looking up

  • Lie with your legs up the wall, one of my favourite Yoga poses to bring me back into my body and the present

  • Take your dinner or lunch outside as much as you can

Wearing

Being 3 months postpartum and breastfeeding in this heat has made me consider outfits and what clothes make me feel good more than ever before… In June I FINALLY found some bits that I can rotate between. Clothes that will hopefully see me through not just this summer as my body changes, but many summers to come.

Here’s some of the stand out bits - I’ve also created a little round up with links here if you want a quicker way to view my favourites. I haven’t purchased all of these, but they’re things I could see myself wearing summer after summer.

  • This linen set from Uniqlo - It’s so well priced, makes me feel a little more put together and can be interchanged with different tops/ bottoms - one thing I would recommend is sizing up if you prefer a looser fit as my top did shrink ever so slightly.

Behind the paywall you’ll fine more of July’s wearing, inspiration for listening & watching, recipes, and some more interior/ random picks for the month!
