Nourishing Moments #6
10 things that lifted my spirits, felt inspiring and a challenge for good measure...
Hello hello,
How are you? (invitation to actually check-in with yourself here)
I’m writing this in pretty good spirits. It’s the day before sending it out and I’m sipping a peppermint tea in my local cafe - anyone else find writing/ reading in a cafe gives them this energy of romanticising their life? A simple pleasure for sure.
Anyway, lets dive right into my recent nourishing moments and recommendations, and as always if you have any of your own, please share them in the comments - I’d love to know ❤️
Nourishing moments
Spotting the first lambs of the year in North Wales at the weekend - so precious 🥹 we stopped the car to watch them and it was a wholesome 10 minutes that’s for sure.
Starting a Morning Pages practice. I’ve been reading The Artists Way and decided to get back into daily journaling, turns out it’s working wonders to get some perspective and process things. I’m actually hosting a Morning Pages journaling session on Sunday if you fancy joining me.
Booking a holiday to Ibiza for early April. We found really reasonable flights so have booked a 4 night stay. I’m excited to explore the Old Town and more wholesome side to Ibiza.
Reading The Salt Path. I’ve just finished it and what a read! This came heavily recommended on Instagram after sharing some recent book recommendations and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the nature descriptions and reminder of how living with less can often mean a fuller life. So so good.
Making a start on sowing seeds. I’m a complete gardening beginner, but I’m realising I need to push aside those perfectionist tendencies and fear of “not being good enough” and start somewhere. This year I’m doing tomatoes, sweet peas, carrots and cosmos. I ordered most of them from Vital Seeds.
I’ve started painting using Doodle Planet for inspiration. Similar to gardening it’s something I can be so critical of myself with so I’m trying to push that aside and just show up to it - turns out it’s rather therapeutic when you detach yourself from the outcome! Who knew?!
Spending longer on my evening skincare routine. I don’t know when I fell out of this habit, but over the past week I’ve been using a habit tracker to help me commit to the things that I know make me feel good - skincare being one of them. It’s become a lovely little ritual again. I put on my calming playlist and use it as a marker to unwind.
I really resonated with this post from Victoria Harrison. A reminder of why living seasonally is important now more than ever.
Noticing the birds making their final preparations for spring nests, spring is coming!
Updating my 2024 vision board. The other day I spent an hour thinking about how I want my spring to look and feel, then I scrolled through Pinterest to find some images that represent it and did a Free Prints order to update my vision board (highly recommend that app if like me you have so many photos on your phone but rarely get round to printing them). It felt grounding to think about my intentions and start slowly leaning into that spring energy.
A not so nourishing moment…
I used to be one of those people a bit smug at how easy I found it to drift off into a peaceful sleep and wake up in the morning feeling well rested. Well, this just hasn’t been the case for the past few months. A side effect of the EMDR therapy is more processing while you sleep, so I’ve been having some pretty strange vivid dreams that feel hard to shake when I wake up (hence the morning pages, which is helping).
I’m hoping naturally over time this will start to shift as I continue to heal, but I’m going to start adjusting my sleep times and a couple of others things too to hopefully enable a deeper more peaceful sleep - I’ll report back if anything works!
Let me know what’s felt nourishing for you/ any things you’ve loved recently in the comments!
Ooh, one final thing… Join me next week to mark nature’s new year!
Rest & Revival ~ Spring Equinox Workshop
I'm hosting a 90 minute Rest & Revival workshop on the 19th of March to celebrate and mark the occasion. The session includes mindful embodied movement suitable for all levels, Pranayama (breathwork) practices, a guided journaling session and a Yoga Nidra practice to finish.
Until next time,
Jodie x
If you found this post useful or enjoyed it I would be so grateful if you shared it or restacked it. It helps more people find the Slower Space community… Thank you x
I love the lamb watching in North Wales! Such a beautiful time of year to be outside and soaking up all the spring things x
Ahh I have yet to see my first lambs but that sounds so wholesome! I found a patch of sunshine in the garden yesterday and sat reading my book while felt amazing, it’s been really rainy in the west of Scotland recently so was very needed. Sorry to hear about your strange dreams, I get those when I’m feeling anxious and they’re always unpleasant… hope they don’t persist for too long!
