hello, I’m Jodie. A Yoga teacher & creator. I write about my quest to live a slower pace of life with themes of rest, living slower and seasonal living. Subscribe to support my work & to read more. Or, get cosy and join our Slower Space community to access all content and the journaling club!
Before we dive in, just a heads up that there’s just 24 hours left to get 20% off an annual Slower Space subscription!
Whether you’ve been a paid subscriber from the start or you’ve just joined us, I just wanted to say the biggest thank you! I feel incredibly grateful to be going into the new year with over 100 of you here - and I’m thrilled to be able to continue with this as we head into 2025.
Anyway, onto the first 20 things that came to mind when I looked back at the year and thought of what I’d want to bring with me into the new one. These are the little notes to self, things big and small, that I’d like to keep close and remember…
You’ll never feel 100% ready for change, you really do have to feel the fear and have the courage to take a step forward - and this applies to more than you think
Prioritise what you eat. A brekky high in protein is a wellness tip that’s actually serving you pretty well
Practice Yoga Nidra, even on the days you feel great
Keep buying less but better and choose second hand, it’s way more fulfilling
In those moments you don’t feel good enough or low, check-in with what the little version of you needs, then share the feeling with others or write about it
When you love someone, or a compliment comes into your head, tell them
Going abroad doesn’t always mean a better holiday, there’s so many parts of the UK that are gorgeous and worth exploring
You don’t need to be perfect, but be honest
Keeping a physical vision board you see often makes you feel good, keep it up
Progress doesn’t have to be quick, it can be slow and take years
Do the admin and not-so-fun work tasks that you want to put at the bottom if your list first, it’s never has bad as your mind makes it seem
When you spend money and invest in yourself, it comes back to you in other ways. Don’t let fear get in the way of buying things, you’re worthy of it
You never regret going out for a walk, even when it’s pouring with rain
Keep your email inbox empty and archive all WhatsApp messages you’ve replied to, your nervous system feels calmer for it
You won’t always feel creative, and that’s ok! Don’t force it, it’s part of the process
Deleting social media off your phone for the weekend is always a good idea
Not everything you buy has to be practical or good value
Wear more colour, you feel good for it!
Don’t take everything personally, it’s less about you and more about them
Dream bigger than you have been, allow yourself to have goals and things you’d like to achieve with no idea on how you’re going to get there, but trusting that you deserve it
This year has been very much about getting my life back on track, getting the ol’ ducks in a row and seeking more joy! After finishing EMDR therapy back in April, and falling pregnant in July I feel like these shifts have allowed me to be more present than ever. I don’t typically use the calendar year as a huge marker (I like to gently cross into the New Year without heavy expectations for the rest of winter), but, it feels rewarding to look back and see how much can change in just 12 months.
So, with that, I’d love to hear your wisdom in the comments…
What’s something, or things you’d like to remember as we head into 2025?
Wishing you a gorgeous, happy new year,
Jodie x
If you found this post useful or enjoyed it I would be so grateful if you shared it or restacked it. It helps more people find the Slower Space community… Thank you x
What a fabulous list. I am going to create a list for myself. Thank you
Thank you for these reminder, Jodie! I especially love the little nudge to wear more color – I've recently fallen into a cream/grey/black rut and a little color here or there during the winter is an instant mood booster. Wishing you a happy 2025!
