Okay, post heatwave, now I feel ready for autumn. Anyone else?
If you’re in the UK, I feel like that heatwave was a final parting gift from the universe to get us ready for cooler weather and cosy season (after a pretty harsh summer), and it definitely worked a trick.
Coming into the colder months used to spark anxiety for me with the unknown of what they might bring. I used to worry about how sluggish I’ll feel and just my mood in general. I didn’t live seasonally or really know how to lean into it, so naturally I craved summer and the season that felt easier. I couldn’t help but look forward and long for spring.
Since learning more about seasonal living, my anxiety about winter hasn’t gone completely, but it’s definitely eased. I feel a sense of relief alongside it now after months of longer days and that feeling of always being on. Finally the slow, long cosy nights at home make it easier to rest and retreat as the rest of the world is in hibernation mode alongside me.
Autumn equinox is only next week (Saturday 23rd), so I wanted to share how I’m using journaling as a way to prepare for autumn and as a chance to have a mini reset.
This year I’m preparing in a way I haven’t before, and the first part of that is journaling, and essentially thinking about how I want my autumn to look. I’m traveling from mid September to early October so this feels even more important to ease me back into the new season when I get home.
I recommend cosying up with a drink of choice (mine was this gorgeous raw Cacao blend), lighting a candle, grabbing your fave journal/ notebook and a weighty pen and making it into a ritual…
Journal prompts for autumn
What’s something you accomplished this summer that you feel proud of?
How do you want to feel this autumn?
What are you ready to release and let go of?
What will help you feel more grounded as we move into the darker months?
What autumn activities do you want to try?
As the world retreats and the days get shorter, how are you planning to rest?
What are you feeling grateful for and most looking forward to for the new season and why?
Winter Wellbeing Workshop
Lastly, I am beyond thrilled to announce that I'm hosting a 90 minute online Winter Wellbeing Workshop/ Ceremony on the 24th of October. It will combine a grounding meditation, practical advice & guidance, time & support on how to set your own winter vision and a Yoga Nidra session to finish for deep restoration and relaxation.
It will be a time to celebrate the darker months, and learn how to go slower/ find joy in what can be a difficult time of year. You can book your spot here. I truly cannot wait to see you there!
p.s. before I sign off, some transparency… I’ve actually just finished this post from the sofa where I’ve spent the last 2 days with *that* virus we all know all too well about, so excuse any spelling mistakes/ if anything isn’t quite right ❤️
Love & gratitude, Jodie x
If you found this post useful/ enjoyed it I would be so grateful if you shared it or restacked it. It helps other people find the Slower Space community! Thank you x
I used to feel the same about autumn and winter, and sometimes still do. But poetry and journaling has really helped me to see the small and beautiful shifts of the seasons. As much as I adore summer and always will, I now actually look forward to autumn and getting cosy. Really looking forward to using these prompts! Thank you 🥰
Oh I am so ready for all the autumn things. bring it on.
