Nourishing Moments #4
10 things that lifted my spirits, felt inspiring and a challenge for good measure...
Hello lovely,
How are you?
I’m writing this the day before it’s going out to you, I’m on the train to Manchester - anyone else love a train journey? I mean, we’re pretty full to the brim but I’ve got a table seat, warm banana bread and I’m in my element writing as we pass through the Peaks. I’m en-route to spend a weekend with a friend and thought it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on some recent nourishing moments, and share some recommendations from the past couple of weeks…
As always, if there’s anything that’s felt nourishing for you recently, join me and share yours in the comments!
Okay, I’m starting with another podcast recommendation, again, by India Rakusen for BBC Radio 4. The series Witch explores the history of the witch and what it means today - truly fascinating, and it made me think more about my own rituals and bringing a sense of magic into my days. Highly recommend!
I met up with a friend in the Peak District recently and did the Mam Tor walk. Firstly, it reminded me how much I need to venture to that part of the UK more. Secondly, how refreshing it feels to be in strongish wind (anyone else get this?). I’m guilty of hibernating a little too much this time of year, and it really felt like the wind was blowing away the cobwebs. That sense of being fully alive!
This Instagram account 💖 just good vibes, in an accepting, everything is welcome kinda way.
Making a start on our bathroom makeover! We’ve been in our house for 3 years in September and we’re making a start on the bathroom. We’re leaning towards blue shades and so far I’m loving the colour James from Little Greene. Will be sharing more on Instagram over the coming weeks.
Hosting the 2nd Story Social book club - just a joy! I’ve loved reading more fiction and honestly having an excuse to keep me accountable. Our second book was Milk Teeth and the discussion we had around it was so varied and thought provoking.
Okay, so I definitely don’t fall into the category of a beauty blogger anymore, but more recently I’ve really enjoyed actually doing my makeup and getting ready for the day. Even if I’m only nipping out, it just does make a difference and makes me feel more ready. I’ve been using the Erborian CC Cream for years and just moved onto a fresh tube, and have gone back to using the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Pillowtalk (I actually wore this on my wedding day). A small, but simple pleasure.
The reaction to this post - honestly, a heartfelt thanks! I love this little community we’re creating over here.
Last weekend our next door neighbour dropped off some food, it was a Saturday night, we had no plans for dinner and it was just the most generous gift and saved us cooking. Something I love about where we live is how friendly and kind our neighbours are, it’s really helped me settle and feel that sense of connection I craved from other places in the past.
My friend came over for the day with her 4 months old! So wholesome 🥺 more of my friends are having babies and honestly it’s just been a joy.
Tar Mar talking about EMDR therapy in her latest video. Therapy can feel like a lonely journey, so it’s a comfort to see one of my favourite creators be so honest about it.
A not so nourishing moment…
I was wondering whether to include this, but I want this to be a space of balance. This week I got triggered, in a pretty big way. It’s funny because part of me wants to excuse how I feel and say in hindsight it isn’t a big deal, but at the time it felt a lot for me. I lost my car in a car park for 30 minutes. It was 8:30pm and I was in Nottingham City Centre, I’d just finished hosting the book club. The entrance I’d come out of was shut, and it was like a slow build up of panic. I was directed to the wrong place and told to walk into a dark car park, which instantly felt unsafe. I knew I’d find the car, and rationally knew I’d be home soon, but I noticed my nervous system react and try to tell me a different story.
I tried to practice what I preach and meet myself with calm and tenderness. My mind jumped to “would this happen to anyone else” and shaming myself for “overreacting”, but, reparenting really saved me, and I guess made this weeks more difficult moment, a kind of nourishing one.
Let me know what’s felt nourishing for you/ any things you’ve loved recently in the comments!

Also, I’m so glad you safely found your car. Sounds scary!
Our daughter moved into her first place!!! It’s been beautiful visiting with her the last few days. She’s growing up to be such an amazing woman. We’ve been having fun, food and even cringed along to Love is Blind. It’s been bliss. ✨
