Nourishing moments #7
10 things that lifted my spirits & felt inspiring, plus a challenge for good measure...
Hey friends,
I hope this finds you well, and if not, here’s an invitation to soften here in this space ❤️
I’m writing this the day before sending on the train down to London. Last month I went on a solo trip and ever since I’ve been feeling a little more courageous to say yes to things, step out of my comfort zone and prioritise joyful moments. So I’m having a solo afternoon before attending a talk with Pandora Sykes and Jon Haidt.
Anyway, as usual, here’s a round up of some recent nourishing moments and recommendations…
Nourishing moments
Finally finishing our outdoor kitchen area (friends, this has been 2 years in the making!). I’m happiest outdoors, so having a little space to cook out there and use the pizza oven is making my heart happy. There’s still some painting to do, but it’s 90% finished - so basically complete!
Ok, a gear shift from pizza, but I’ve started seeing a hormone specialist and acupuncturist. I’m four sessions in, and I’m already feeling lighter for it. It feels so good to have an expert I trust to bounce all of the nutrition and wellbeing jargon off and be prioritising my health.
For balance, cosying up with a cup of tea and a couple of chocolate chunks (Lindt Sea Salt or Orange for me) whilst catching up with my YouTube subscription box - as always, a JOY
If you follow me anywhere else online this won’t come as a surprise - I’m thrilled with these jeans. I feel like I’m finally finding my style again after years of struggling, and they’re an piece in my wardrobe that feels so fun to wear.
Watching people of all different ages turn out to vote, I’ve felt a little more hopeful about the state of everything ever since.
A few weeks back I had a lovely chat with fellow creator Molly (here’s the episode if you missed it). It felt good to explore being creative in a different way and it was really inspiring to hear more about Molly’s slower creative life.
Practising Yoga outside with Jay. Granted, it’s only happened twice, but if it’s a clear morning and we’re both around we’ve made a pact to make it happen.
Getting back into the swing of things with YouTube and vlogging. I’ll tell you something, if you’re wanting to test your levels of self acceptance, filming moments of your life and editing yourself is a great way to do it! It’s made me realise how much I want to self edit and mask certain behaviours, but, also been a great way to express myself in my freest form online. I spent my teenage years dreaming of making vlogs but never allowing myself to do it, I feel like my inner teen is healing with each upload.
I saw Foo Fighters and Green Day live in June and again it was reconfirmed to me that the feeling of aliveness from live music is just the darn best - I chatted more about the experience here.
Last but absolutely not least… One of my closest friends had a baby! I’m in that season of life where I’m seeing some of my besties start families and it’s a whole mix of emotions but just so overwhelmingly beautiful.
A not so nourishing moment (for a little bit of balance)
Health wise, things have been tricky for me the past few months (hence seeking some support and why I’ve been a little all over the place with posting).
It’s made me realise how lonely having any sort of health related complications can be, and how much I took things just going smoothly for granted. Thankfully I’m slowly coming out of it, I’m feeling better for focusing on nutrition and adding even more calm into my days - but yeah, if I’m honest, behind the scenes the past couple of months have been a lot, and I feel grateful to slowly start feeling myself again.
Meet me in the comments to share some of your nourishing moments!
✨The next monthly journaling club ✨
On the 1st of August we have the next Monthly Journaling club! The theme for next month is consistency… I’ve already lined up some juicy prompts that I can’t wait to dig into with you!
If you’re new to it, we meet up at 8pm on Zoom at the beginning of each month for a 45 minute journaling session. We start off with a grounding meditation then move into our prompts. Some of the prompts we revisit to bring a sense of check-in and reflection, then we move into some specific, theme based questions.
You can find all of the details for the journaling club here. I’d love to see you there ❤️
Until next time,
Jodie x
If you found this post useful or enjoyed it I would be so grateful if you shared it or restacked it. It helps more people find the Slower Space community… Thank you x
Jodie, I so relate to the feeling of isolation and loneliness when having health struggles. For me, it stems from the health issue itself, but also not wanting to prematurely worry my loved ones.
One of my favorite things of this month so far is going swimming in the swimming pond. Cold when you get it but after a few minutes you are used to it and it’s glorious! I feel so content, swimming on my own, sunshine on my face ☀️☀️
